Noah D. York Death: It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Noah D. York, a cherished member of the Chesterfield, Michigan community. Noah passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the age of 26. His untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but the legacy he leaves behind through his music, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
Noah was born on June 5, 1998, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to David C. VanDerheyden, Jr. and Dawn Marie York. From an early age, Noah showed an extraordinary talent for music. He was a self-taught musician with an incredible ear for sound, able to pick up virtually any instrument and bring it to life. His passion for traditional instruments, including the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, drums, piano, and guitar, set him apart as a true virtuoso. Whether he was leading worship at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Algonac or Living Word Church in New Haven, or simply sharing a quiet tune with friends, Noah’s music was a reflection of his soul—a beautiful blend of his faith, love for people, and his incredible gifts.
As a member of both churches’ music ministries, Noah played an instrumental role in uplifting others. His ability to lead with humility and grace through the power of music was felt by all who gathered in those spaces. He didn’t just play the music—he breathed life into it. Every note he played carried meaning, every song a message of hope, joy, and love. He had a special way of using his musical gifts to draw others closer to God and to each other, always serving with a heart full of devotion.
Outside of his music, Noah had a deep and abiding love for the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace and solace in the natural world. He appreciated the quiet beauty of the trees, rivers, and open sky, often finding moments of reflection and clarity in the wilderness. Noah’s connection to the outdoors was evident in the way he spoke about his time spent in nature; it was clear that it brought him a sense of peace that nothing else could. His respect for the environment and his love for all animals, particularly his beloved cat, Tom, was another testament to his gentle and compassionate nature. Whether it was a day spent fishing by the water or simply taking a walk in the woods, Noah found comfort in the simplicity and stillness of the world around him.
Noah was deeply loved by his family, and his passing leaves an irreplaceable hole in their lives. He is survived by his mother, Dawn; his father, David; his grandmother, Linda York; aunts Joan York, Karen McDonald, Jan York, and Marilyn Damato; uncles Frederick York and Richard York; close cousins; and an extended family who all cherished him deeply. Noah’s family was everything to him, and his love for them was evident in every interaction. He was a beloved son, grandson, cousin, and nephew, and his family’s love and support meant the world to him.
Though Noah was taken from this world too soon, his memory will continue to live on through the impact he had on the people around him. He was a man of deep faith, a talented musician, a compassionate friend, and a loving family member. His kindness and generosity touched all who knew him, and his legacy will endure through the music he shared, the love he gave, and the lessons he imparted to those lucky enough to have crossed his path.
Noah’s family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 S. Main, Mount Clemens, Michigan, on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 12 noon until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 11:30 am at the same location, with family and friends welcome to arrive starting at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Michigan Humane Society or a donor’s choice in Noah’s memory. This is a fitting tribute to a man who loved animals deeply and cared for all living things with the same gentleness he showed toward those around him.
Noah’s passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of his family and friends, but we take solace in knowing that his music, his faith, and his love for life will continue to resonate with all of us. He was a gift to the world, and though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on forever in the lives he touched.
Rest in peace, Noah. Your music will continue to play in our hearts, and your spirit will live on in every note.
