A pioneer of the sport in the region, John helped grow cornhole from a backyard pastime into a thriving, competitive and inclusive community. He started one of the first organized leagues in the area, which quickly became a home for players from all walks of life.
Players remember John not just for his skill, but for the atmosphere he created—fun, respectful, competitive, and most importantly, welcoming. He treated players like family, regardless of skill level. He was known to spice up league nights with twists and challenges, always keeping things interesting, and always putting people first.
One longtime player recalled, “John, you were the very first league I joined. You encouraged me from day one, and even took a chance sponsoring me for my pro run. You believed in me, and I’ll never forget that.”
That was who John was—someone who believed in others, even when they didn’t believe in themselves.
